Learning outcomes: After having satisfied the course requirements, the student will be able to
- describe linguistic research in Finnish-Swedish language contacts in Finland
- describe the laws and statutes of Finnish language policy
- discuss present and past aspects of bilingualism and the status of Swedish in Finland.
Content
Overviews of common historical ties between Sweden and Finland, Swedish-Finnish language contacts, Finnish language policy, bilingualism in Finland, and the status of Swedish as an official language in Finland.
