Learning outcomes Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • have practical and knowledgeable tools to encounter with clients with refugee background
  • identify threats and risk factors to mental health and well-being associated with refugee situations
  • understand the key aspects of supporting the mental health and well-being of refugees
Content

Exploring the specific issues of mental health and well-being of people from refugee backgrounds

Modes of study

Modes of study: The course is completed by independently completing a 5-credit assignment package (3 credits + 2 credits) offered by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) Paloma training. It consists of 16 differently themed videos, related learning tasks and a reflective essay.

Evaluating criteria: The content of the learning assignment must correspond to the assignment and be structured according to the instructions. The mark will take into account how comprehensively and from several perspectives the topic has been covered, how coherent and well-founded the reflections and conclusions are, and how logically and clearly they are presented.

Offering information: Alternative course of the Temokuu module of the 2124823 Variations of Cultural Health Practices course, common to all students. Students may choose to take both courses and place the second Temokuu module as an elective. The course is open to all interested students.
